Parameters & extensions

Tune PostgreSQL parameters and enable extensions — and understand which changes trigger a rolling restart.

A cluster's Parameters tab lets you tune PostgreSQL configuration and manage extensions. Parameters are available for PostgreSQL clusters.

Parameters

Relay exposes an allow-listed catalog of parameters, specific to your Postgres version and enabled extensions. Setting a value overrides the platform default; clearing the input removes the override and reverts to the default.

Some parameters require a restart to take effect. These are marked with a restart chip.

Restart behavior: parameters marked restart are applied through a rolling restart. Everything else hot-reloads.

Extensions

The available extensions are btree_gin, btree_gist, citext, hstore, pg_stat_statements, pg_trgm, pgaudit, pgcrypto, unaccent, uuid-ossp, and vector (pgvector), on every supported PostgreSQL version. pg_stat_statements and pgaudit need preloading.

Select the extensions you want, then run CREATE EXTENSION in the database to install them:

CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS pg_stat_statements;

Extensions that need preloading require a rolling restart when the selection changes (they're marked with a restart chip). Turning an extension off also clears any parameters scoped to it.
