Agent
The Relay agent brokers every governed database connection.
The Relay agent is the process that carries every governed connection. It sits between database clients and your upstream databases, intercepts the wire protocol in real time, applies masking and policy, records query audit, and forwards traffic.
The agent speaks each database's native wire protocol (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL) with no database driver dependencies.
Who runs the agent
On Relay Cloud, Relay runs and updates the replicas of each workspace's
managed agents, including the default agent. There is
nothing to install: create a connection, pick its agent,
and connect with relay connect. You run the replicas of a self-hosted agent
yourself.
Need the agent to run inside your own network (on-premises, air-gapped, or under your own Kubernetes)? That is available as the Relay Agent Edition, a self-hosted bundle delivered with its own installation guide. Contact hello@userelay.sh.
